Becker’s: HSS De-Identification Project

Hospital for Special Surgery to develop AI algorithms with 5.3M de-identified radiology exams

The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City is working with various tech companies to develop artificial intelligence algorithms to improve clinical care, one of the vendors confirmed Aug. 22.

The imaging IT vendor, Dicom Systems, de-identified 5.3 million radiology exams as part of the orthopedic hospital’s project. From there, HSS is passing along the de-identified data to a separate AI company to develop algorithms that support treatment for fracture misdiagnosis.
